How I Work
-
Working Together
Parents are an important part of the process. I work alongside families, sharing observations and strategies, teaching parents how to use them in everyday interactions, and making decisions together about what feels meaningful and realistic for their child and family.
-
Natural & Intentional Learning
I follow the child's lead, building on their interests, strengths, and motivation. At the same time, I intentionally structure interactions and create opportunities for learning, so that communication can develop naturally while still being purposeful.
-
Communication in Everyday Life
Communication is about more than what happens during a session. I focus on meaningful, functional communication that helps a child participate, connect with others, express themselves, and be more successful in their everyday life.
-
Individualized Support
Every child and every family is different. I adapt support to the child's communication profile, strengths, interests, and needs, while also considering each family's priorities, routines, and what works for them.
-
Evidence-Informed Practice
My work is grounded in current research, clinical experience, and an understanding of each child's individual needs and context. I draw on complementary cognitive, developmental, and behavioral perspectives to understand how children learn, communicate, interact, and participate in everyday life.
Rather than relying on a single approach, I bring together principles from these different perspectives and adapt them to the child, the family, and the goals that matter in their everyday life. I continue to learn and refine my practice as new research and clinical knowledge emerge.
